Dance styles

ACROBATIC SHOW DANCE  

This style shall include many techniques, such as tumbling, balancing, contortions, and aerial tricks without hands and controlled movement, as well as acrobatic elements, static elements, jumps, hand support elements, turns, rolls, walkovers and saltos, all of which should be connected with dance movement and dance combinations. The emphasis is on strength, stretch, control and ease of movement, no matter what technique is being used.

 

SHOW DANCE

In the broadest sense is based either on any Jazz/Lyrical, Ballet and/or Modern and Contemporary dance technique. Other dance disciplines can also be incorporated but cannot dominate. Ballroom, Latin or Rock ’n’ Roll are excluded and cannot be performed. Show Dance allows the use of lifts (except for Children), acrobatics, props, lip-sync and other theatrical effects. An Show Dance number always has to have a guideline, story or visible concept to entertain the audience.

 

BALLET DANCE

Is the most formal of the ballet styles; it adheres to traditional ballet technique. There are variations relating to area of origin, such as Russian ballet, French ballet, British ballet and Italian ballet. Ballet dance is best known for its unique features and techniques, such as pointe work, turn-out of the legs, and high extensions; its graceful, flowing, precise movements; and its ethereal qualities. This discipline must be performed using the Ballet Technique and style and may be performed in soft ballet slippers or Pointe shoes. Although choreography may be of a modern nature, it may not deviate from what is commonly known as Ballet. Lyric, Modern and Modern Jazz pieces may not be performed in this discipline.

 

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance brings new information about body and how the body works,offers new quality of movement, new shapes of body in area, brings new composition process and space for experiment. In this category dance compositions created by using modern and contemporary dance techniques are presented. Other dance techniques are not recommended. The composition must have an idea or a theme. Various lifts (except children) and acrobatic stunts (except children) are permitted. Decorations are not recommended. The music is unlimited. When evaluating, points will be given for the technique, musicality, choreography, originality, synchro and originality. The costumes must be connected with the theme and age of the performers.

 

CHARACTER/FOLK DANCE

These disciplines must be Traditional Dances of any Nationality, passed down from generation to generation, and may include: Polonaise, Polynesian, American Indian, Highland Fling, Flamenco, Japanese Candle Dance, Hindu, Tarantella, African, etc. Traditional /authentic costuming and music is expected, and will be used in the total evaluation.

 

STREET DANCE SHOW  

In this category dance compositions created by using Hip Hop, Locking, Popping, House, Bboying, Krump, Waacking and Vogue dance styles. Classical, contemporary, salsa, jazz and disco dance styles can be used, but they should not dominate in the performance. The composition must have a theme or an idea. Various lifts (except children), acrobatic stunts (except children), decorations and so on can be used in this choreographical composition. Hip Hop, New Jack Swing, R‘n‘B, G-Funk, Reggaeton, Pop, Breakbeat, Funk, Electro, Disco, House, Dub Step, Glitch Hop, Techno music can be used. When evaluating, points will be given for the variety of elements, technique, costumes, make-up, hair styling, musicality, synchro and originality.

 

POP DANCE

In this category dance composition can be without a theme or an idea. Various lifts (except children), acrobatic stunts (except children), decorations and so on can be used in this choreographical composition. POP, New Jack Swing, R‘n‘B, G-Funk, Reggaeton, Funk, Electro, Disco, House, Dub Step, Glitch Hop, Techno music can be used. When evaluating, points will be given for the variety of elements, technique, costumes, make-up, hair styling, musicality, synchro and originality.

 

BREAK DANCE

Choreography for the exhibition to the team’s own music must be a clear performance of a team, not just a demonstration of unrelated solo performances. Musicality, difficulty of movements and figures, originality and team variability will all be highly evaluated.

 

LATINO SHOW

We are looking for some of the many International Latin American dance style performances to Latin music such as Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive or any other type of Latin-inspired music of the competitor’s choice. Costumes may be Carnival, African, Futuristic, Street, Caribbean. Exhibitions may be in any one form, or a combination of two or more different styles, and may include theatrical movements.

 

HIP HOP

Dance composition created by using Hip Hop dance styles are performed. Locking, Popping, House, Krump, Waacking, Vogue and Bboying styles are allowed to be used, but they cannot dominate in the performance. Various acrobatic stunts are allowed. Raises and the use of decorations is forbidden. Hip Hop, New Jack Swing, Glitch Hop, R‘n‘B, G-Funk, Reggaeton music can be used. When evaluating, points will be given for the variety of elements, technique, improvisation, musicality, synchro and originality.

 

VOGUE

Vogue is a dance style, which is based on movements that mimic the postures and facial expressions Vogue magazine models. This dance, having African American and Latino roots, was born in the 60s of the last century as a way of expression of gay culture. Today vogue has no a sexual accents, the boys and girls can dance it.

 

DANCEHALL

Dancehall is a popular dance genre springing out of English speaking Caribbean, and spearheaded from Jamaica. It is the mix and coming together of African retention dances of the region and Jamaica in particular, with popular culture, and youthful “innovation”. Dancehall has in the later years been used to package and sell Jamaican and Caribbean culture. It has for that purpose been restructured in order to sell more on the international market.

 

LADIES SHOW

Lady dance is a mixture of various styles: from jazz-fank to strip-plastic, from go-go to contemporary and other dances, and a distinctive feature of this trend is its extraordinary emotionality. Reggaeton, Sexy R’n’B, Strip Plastic, StripPlastic, Vogue styles are allowed to be used.
